Rif Mountains

Rif is one of our longest running projects, and is very close to our hearts. Half an hour from the beautiful blue city of Chefchaouen, the rural villages we travel to, though small, are always buzzing with normal Moroccan life. We usually visit the same three schools to properly maintain our Fluoride and oral hygiene programmes and are always met with big smiles, very brave children and lots of supportive and appreciative teachers.

We always stay in an Eco-friendly B&B run by a wonderful family, where we eat far too much delicious food. This house is tucked onto the side of a mountain, with stunning views over a valley, all sorts of farm animals roaming around and copious amounts of rosemary bushes artistically planted in little gardens.

With shared rooms and an authentically Moroccan environment, people bond very quickly, often on the flights over and many become long standing friends. The work is tiring, and emotional; with people often reflecting on how they better appreciate what they have and also being so grateful to be able to help so many.

Come and join us on this amazing journey.

Kelly’s Experience

Kelly Rogers

My experience on joining the Dental Mavericks in the Rif Mountains was amazing and very humbling. Being part of a team that everyone is there for everyone and not one job is one person.

It’s been the best thing I’ve ever done.  It’s also changed me, overcoming personal hurdles that I can push myself and do things out of my comfort zone.

Helping the kids and feeling you’ve made a difference even in some small part in getting patients out of pain.

I loved the family home we stayed in and we were looked after like we were family.

I wouldn’t change a thing!

Tasha’s Experience

My week with Dental Mavericks in Morocco was an absolutely amazing experience. I met such a lovely group of people and considering we only met that week, we worked so well together. The whole week was super well organised, despite being unsure which schools we were moving to, at what time, it was still such a smooth run. I’m so grateful for being able to experience this opportunity and treat the children who were in need. There were so many highlights throughout the week but I think I am just glad I met so many wonderful people and got to see everyone work as a team to complete our ultimate goal of treating so many children!

I think considering this was the first project back after the pandemic, it ran really smoothly and everything went very well!
