Essaouira
Essaouira is a very different trip, this is the only project which isn’t remote, but in the centre of this wonderful place. It is a UNESCO World Heritage listed city and well known for three of the major religions living in harmony there, evidence of which can be seen in the architecture. With the bustling medina, the beautiful camel-filled beaches and exciting nightlife, this is a very lively trip.
We tend to stay as close to, if not directly inside, the Medina, with all the schools we treat being no more than half an hour’s walk. The teachers are very supportive and organised in these areas and many of the older children like to practice their English, with great success!
On this trip, we’re linked to a very hard working association, that tirelessly makes sure we have everything we need. We sometimes leave for more remote villages nearby and even orphanages, which I’m pleased to say, have quite beautiful gardens and good facilities.
The work is tiring, and emotional; with people often reflecting on how they better appreciate what they have and also being so grateful to be able to help so many.
